Lucy Bowen McCauley
Lucy Bowen McCauley was trained in Indianapolis, at Interlochen, and on scholarship at the Joffrey Ballet School. She has performed with the Joffrey Concert Group, the Maryland Ballet, the Virginia Ballet, Daniel West Dancers, and was a founding member of Eric Hampton Dance. Since 1996 Lucy has been the Artistic Director of the critically acclaimed Bowen McCauley Dance, renowned for its use of live music, which performs locally, nationally, and internationally. She has choreographed over 80 ballets for her own and other companies and has been a guest teacher throughout the U.S. and Mexico. Lucy is a 2012 recipient of the Washington Performing Arts Society’s Pola Nirenska Award, which honors members of the Washington dance community who have demonstrated exceptional dedication to the field of dance. In 2011, Dance/USA selected her as a national leader for its inaugural mentorship program. Lucy was also recognized as an innovator by the Genetic Alliance for BMD’s Dance for PD program. In October 2010, she received the prestigious lifetime award for Outstanding Achievement in Dance Education at the 10th Annual Metro DC Dance Awards in Washington, DC. Additionally, she has been honored with the Alumni Path of Inspiration Award from the Interlochen Arts Academy, the Arlington VA Commission for the Arts Star Award for Artistic Excellence, and the prestigious AAUW Elizabeth Campbell Award for the Advancement of the Arts in Arlington. She is a pioneer in stretch technique, and has taught ballet and stretch at the MYB for over 20 years.
