NATALIE MOFFET SMITH
Natalie is a native Washingtonian. She trained as a classical ballet dancer at the Washington School of Ballet under the direction of Mary Day and Choo San Goh. Through summer scholarships at Joffrey, Pennsylvania Ballet, and Skidmore College, she had the good fortune to train with Meredith Baylis, Lupe Serrano and Melissa Hayden. A company member with the Bristol Ballet Company and Minnesota Ballet Company (Duluth), she taught for each of those companies’ affiliated schools, and later she became a member of Eric Hampton Dance. She went on to found and direct her own professional contemporary ballet company, DanceSmith.
Natalie holds a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree in dance. She has taught at the university and academy level as a faculty member of The George Washington University as well as George Mason University. Most recently, she has taught for the Washington School of Ballet, where she worked with Septime Webre as repetiteur for his Nutcracker. Natalie is also a registered massage practitioner (RMP). Inspired by the clients she treats who have Parkinson’s Disease (PD), Natalie recently completed training in Dance for PD. She is delighted to be heading up the new Contemporary Division of Dance at MYB.
