Honoring Harriet Moncure Fellows

Women's History Month

This year the Maryland Youth Ballet Lifetime Achievement Award will be given to Harriet Moncure Fellows who is retiring after more than 40 years with MYB. Harriet’s influence on the school has been profound. She taught all levels of students over the years; she is the architect of MYB’s JumpStart Outreach Scholarship program for underserved young children in our community; and is the conservator of the work of choreographer Eric Hampton and has set Hampton pieces on MYB dancers for countless performances. Harriet will be especially missed during the holiday season as she was invaluable as Michelle Lees’ assistant with MYB’s annual production of The Nutcracker; and as an integral part of our students’ training, she faithfully observed and took notes for every MYB production providing the dancers with corrections to improve their performances and further their development. Above all, Harriet’s generosity and kindness as a teacher made a difference to countless MYB dancers, enriching their lives in so many ways.
