Dance Series

Join us this May for our Heritage Month Dance Series in celebration of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. Classes are free and open to the public (ages 10+).

CLASSICAL CHINESE DANCE with Xinran (Rose) Qi

This class focuses on learning the essential techniques of Classical Chinese Dance form through expressive and performative choreographic concepts. The student will be encouraged to focus on body rhythm, which emphasizes the breath as a driving force in dance movements. The class design incorporates the internal feeling to prime movements and mindfully expand each student’s physical, intellectual, and creative capacities toward a personalized skillset and a new relationship to the embodiment within a Chinese dance form.

KATHAK with Simran Kaur

Kathak is one of eight South Asian classical dance traditions and finds its origins at the cultural intersection of Islam and Hinduism. Unique among the dance forms of South Asia, Kathak is known for its heeled pirouettes and rhythmically complex foot patterns. This workshop will provide participants with a glimpse into the two integral aspects of Kathak – the abstract and the narrative. Suggested Attire: Loosely fitted athletic clothing
